About us...
AXIS Foundation, Inc. (AFI) is a California non-profit youth development
organization established to serve at-risk youth ages 14 to 24, including
transitional youth, through a variety of prevention and intervention services
geared toward their social and economic development, and improved academic
achievement, including tutoring, anger management, substance abuse prevention,
self-reliance workshops, and college and vocational exploration activities.
History
Non profit history
The president provides a long-term history of corporate work, and as of the last 9 years, has worked extensively in the non-profit industry. His roles have included directing the marketing communications of a Redlands, CA non-profit that has a 72 year history in the community. He additionally has led out in developing a Business Improvement District, and was the recipient of the "Business Advocate of the Year" award in 2005. He started his involvement as a business strategist supporting workforce development and brings an MBA and Health Psychology degree to the work environment.
Length of Service – AXIS Foundation, Inc. has been fully
functioning and integrated in the Riverside
communities since 2008 by providing fundraisers supporting Culinary Arts
training as well as Financial Literacy courses in the community of Rubidoux. We
have most recently engaged in youth programs supporting community service
through the National Alliance of Faith & Justice (2010) and most recently we
are confirmed to speak to the National Association of Blacks in Criminal
Justice at their annual conference in St.
Louis, MO, about
Millennial Youth and Mediation through Alternative Dispute Resolution (2011).
Organizational Accomplishments – Several to include: the promotion of community
volunteerism through service with the City of Riverside Mayors office for youth
development, and The Riverside African American Historical Society; a recent
2011 MLK Day of Service sub grantee through the National Alliance of Faith and
Justice; the completion of our first year of Financial Literacy initiatives; 2
fundraisers supporting a Culinary Arts Management Training program; a recent
selection as a seminar presenter to the National Conference of Blacks in
Criminal Justice – to discuss the Millennial generation and ADR (Alternative
Dispute Resolution), July 2011; motivated approximately 300 volunteers to provide
services for different fundraisers and events; Culinary support for MLK Day of
Services feeding 300, and the community & board approval to develop the
financial literacy piece into the “step-up” project.
Current Programs/Activities – Formal speaking engagements to highlight youth and
challenges (NABCJ-St. Louis), Financial Literacy, Culinary Arts Management
Training and the “Step-up” project supporting out-of-school, low-income, and
transitional youth in the high crime, high unemployment targeted areas of
Arlanza and Rubidoux in Riverside for youth aged 14-24. We are also continuing
to focus on youth volunteerism and service, and as-well, we are partnering with
Dr. Jim Erickson (of La Sierra University) to discuss Philanthropy in April -
2011.

The
president was awarded the “Business Advocate of the Year” award
through the San Diego Business Development Council. To support the receipt of
this award he was involved in a Gompers middle school project
directed towards educating youth on life skills issues and about the relevance
of education. He was also a part of developing the first annual literacy festival for
youth in Southeastern San Diego, of which he
was recognized by the City Council office.
